Back in the day (in the actual nineties) wearing warm toned eye-shadow that made you look like you’d been crying was dubbed ‘heroine chic’. This edgy look was far from mainstream but nowadays the rust-red ‘grunge’ eye-shadow trend is super popular and shows no sign of abating with yet more brands adding their spin. I’ve scouted my Top 5 New Grunge Palettes from high-end to high-street for you below:
- ABH: Modern Renaissance Palette, 2. The Balm: Meet Matt(e) Trimony, 3. MUR: Newtrals vs Neutrals, 4. Melt: Dark Matter Stack, 5. Morphe: 12NB Natural Beauty Palette.
I first blogged my obsession with ‘sunset’ eye-shadow colours here almost a year ago. I’m amazed this alternative trend rooted in a gothy aesthetic is still going strong. Arguably this trend recent was kick started by Lime Crime’s Venus and I spy a few dupes for that palette in my selection above.
I’ve tried and tested MOST of the palettes I’ve recommended, with others are firmly on my wish list. Anastasia Beverly Hills is new to me and I’m also keen to try America’s favourite budget brand Morphe (#5 pictured), both now available in the UK. Incidentally the 12NB is described as a mini 35O, the must have warm toned palette near impossible to get hold of, so that had to make the cut!
So over to you, love it or hate it, have you tried the smoky rust coloured eye trend? Or maybe you’ve already tried some of my grunge palette top picks? I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments….
