I could draw horses before I could draw people.
I grew up obsessed with all animals, real, fictional and prehistoric. Family and friends tease me about being a bit of an Elmyra. Thank providence for stray cats or I might never have owned one.
I’ll always be a goth at heart.
I’ve never been able to commit to wearing black full-time, but the sensibility is there. Poe, Oscar Wilde, and Gaiman’s Sandman were gothic icons of my youth. Nirvana, Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Manson and Smashing pumpkins were a staple of my teenage playlist. I’m only happy when it rains… check out my teenage sketch book!
I play the guitar, yes I do.
Not very often or with fantastic skill. But that doesn’t matter. I play for my own amusement. And this year I finally bought my teenage self the gift of the eclectic guitar I always wanted.
My hair is a window to my soul.
I’ve been cutting and dying it myself since my mid teens. It’s been every length from long to pixie and tinted white blonde to black via every shade in-between. At uni my tutors knew who my heroes were by my haircut. My default is often a bob, it’s a very versatile length. This year I’m going ‘natural’ and growing it out.
I love my Camera.
I paid for it with blood, sweat and tears and I wonder how I ever got by without it. Photography was my inroad back to creative practice after a crisis, and it taught be how to look again. Taking pictures is an underrated skill. Photography taught me about light, colour and composition more than anything I learned at college. Photography constantly inspires me and often forms an integral part of my digital art.
I was inspired in part to write this post by my friend Chiaki , who wrote about some things you might not know about her over on beautiful blog here.
So what 5 Things don’t we know about you?
